xp with most all updates.

This problem just started in the last week or so I believe.

The problem is when I run outlook I can send and receive but when I hit the
send button it hangs sometimes till it times out. It will most times finally
send the mail, might have to start and stop the send a few times.

Once and a while it will send in the blink of an eye..?
This will happen with or without a attachment

I uninstalled my virus software and disabled the firewall and shut down
everything that I thought might cause this. Still the same.

The kicker is my wife and I are on a local net. Her mail is through one ISP
and mine is through a different ISP.

I also checked the router and was ok.

Sometimes on both machines the mail will send "immediately".
Also, switched back to Outlook express and got the same thing.
I think it is a recent MS Update.

Any info would I would be so happy...:)

Thanks I have spent the better part of the day searching and reading.

First off, you should check that your mail servers are setup
correctly.
Inbounds looks something like -> Mail.Provider.Net
Outbounds will look like -> smtp.Provider.Net.
Try to ping the servers and note the round-trip packet time.
Email settings such as "My ISP requires logging on to outgoing
mail servers". Check C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Etc
for the existence of a Hosts file. There are too many variables
for a problem like this, to give a definitive answer.

Mail servers are correct and never been changed. One time I click send and
it goes through in a split second, next hit of send, might hang for a min,
then send fine or might time out and next hit of send and off it goes. Would
get consistent problem if the server were incorrect. The ping time follows
the same pattern of fast then slow.
