Stuck with parts of Track changes

When I send a document out for review, most reviewers use the track changes
facility. I get the document back, process all review suggestions, and make
sure that the Track changes is turned off. Nevertheless on some (but not
all!) documents it happens that if I later add or delete one of the numbered
headings, the renumbering of the subsequent headings is tracked. Changing a
bulleted list to normal body text may also be tracked. In the reviewing pane
I can see the change entered as a "Change of formatted bullets and numbering"
and indicating one of the reviewers as responsible! I have so far not
succeeded in removing this trace of tracking, which makes future re-editing
of the document quite tedious. How can I get rid of these reviewers from my
document?
TIA

Hi ClaesG

When you have finished processing all the review suggestions, are you
turning off Track Changes (that is, preventing future tracking), or hiding
the existing tracked changes, or accepting/rejecting (ie deleting) the
tracked changes?

And, what version of Word do you have?

In any case, to get rid of reviewers who have no tracked changes or comments
attributed to them in the document, try saving the document, closing Word,
re-opening Word and re-opening the document.

Hope this helps.

If you can share what version of Microsoft Office-Word, is being used,
someone might be able to give more specific information. In general, this
sounds like an option that has to be chosen, and not available by default. If
you say it has been turned off already, re-check and make sure this
preference was actually saved.

Hello Shauna
Sorry, I forgot to mention the Word release. It is Word 2003

What I mean by processing the review comments, is stepping through them and
either make a reject or accept. When I am finished, there are no more trcked
changes, something thtat is best checked with the Next change button in the
Review toolbar. The Track changes is then turned off. Any simple text changes
are not tracked after that.

But alas, as soon as I remove or add a heading, the changed numbering of all
following headings are tracked. But the added or deleted heading text is
*not* tracked, just the changed numbering.

This review is just one part of a rather extensive process, so all concerned
documents have been saved, closed and re-opened several times, as has Word
itself, after the occurrence of the problem. But it persists.

Hi

I've played around with this and I can replicate the problem. It seems to
occur only when someone who was *not* the author is editing the document. I
can't think of a workaround. Sorry.

I'll report it to Microsoft as a bug.

Hope this helps.
