I am having a bizzare download problem with my web site. Some people
(seem to be mostly Windows XP users) cannot paste (or type) my file
URL's into Internet Explorer to download files
(http://www.cyber-matrix.com/dl/CyberShell.zip). They get an error
that the file or web site cannot be found. Clicking an http link on
web pages works just fine though. Some with W2k and 98SE also have
problems though (with IE but not Netscape). Note that other sites will
work and do not show this problem. For ex:
http://download.jgsoft.com/editpad/SetupEditPadLite.exe
A work around is to just paste the directory portion
(http://www.cyber-matrix.com/dl/). You can then click on the listed
files in the folder and download them. However if you try pasting
http://www.cyber-matrix.com/dl/CyberShell.zip into your browser with
IE on these problem machines it won't work.
There is also another workaround. When you paste don't
include the http:// bit and it now works (ie.
www.cyber-matrix.com/dl/CyberShell.zip).
My site is hosted on the latest Linux/Apache. Any ideas as to what is
going wrong? My web host claims they are unable to reproduce the
problem themselves though I can and I am getting a large number of
customer complaints.
