Strange thing when shutting down

When I went to shut down my machine, and I get the window with the icons for
Standby, TurnOff, Restart, there is a message below that states: " Click on
Turnoff to install updates or click on this to install without turning off".

I had just finished running the Windows Update Program to download some
updates. Before, I always get an icon on the taskbar telling me that the
Updates have been download. By habit, I always do a manual updating of
Windows. No such icon now appears on the taskbar.

Is it kosher that I would only install the updates on shutdown, or have I
picked up some malicious software. Does anybody know anything about this?

Yes, there are updates that want to install at shutdown since they require a
restart to be come fully effective, which will happen the next time you
start it.
