strange request..

My neighbour has asked me if it possible to hide Internet Explorer on his
computer from his children. They use Outlook Express for emails but the
children are not allowed on the internet.
Is there more that I can do other than delete the Internet Explorer icons?

Looking for solutions.

If they are smart they will still get at it via C/Programmes etc and might
even reinstate the shortcut

I am not too sure they will know to look there for it, especially if i tell
them its been deleted. I do know that the youngest knows he can get
internet access from some emails. The bottom of some emails has a link to
some website.
But I do have to try something to hide it.

Start/Run/Regedit
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersio
n\Policies\Explorer.Value Name: DisallowRun
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersi
on \Policies\Explorer] Create a new DWORD value and name
it "DisallowRun" set the value to "1" to enable
application restrictions or "0" to allow all applications
to run.

Then create a new sub-key called
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersi
on\ Policies\Explorer\DisallowRun] and define the
applications the are to be restricted. Creating a new
string value for each application, named as consecutive
numbers, and setting the value to the filename to be
restriced (e.g. "regedit.exe"). Restart Windows for the
changes to take effect.

Going to Start > Run and typing in a web address will get you going, there are many ways around not having an icon to start IE.

If you have XP Pro,

First, follow the instructions below:
How to Disable Simple File Sharing
1.. Click Start, and then click My Computer.
2.. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options, and then click the View tab.
3.. In the Advanced Settings section, clear the Use simple file sharing
(Recommended) check box.
4.. Click OK.
Next:
go to C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer right click on IExplore.exe and
click Properties. Go to the security tab, click add, type the person's user
name. Click OK. Under the Deny column, select Full Control. Click OK, and
PRESTO!

If you have XP home, boot to safe mode, and follow the instructions above.
