strange monitor problem

Last week I started having this problem with my computer monitor where at
random moments the screen will "shrink" horizontally by itself, as if I had
messed with the width setting. I've checked the connection to the video card
and it's in all the way, tried adjusting the width setting to compensate and
it ignores the change.
I have no idea what is making it do this.

If whatever solution there is for this requires a lot of detail, you can

Hi,

Could be the monitor dying or reacting to static discharge.

Static discharge...?

Didn't know that'd have such a harsh effect, whoa...can anything be done
about that or is my monitor basically trash?

Static wreaks havoc on electronic equipment, and can manifest itself in many
unpredicatable ways. I was merely speculating that it may be the cause of
the odd problem.

Have you tried the monitor on another system to see if the problem still
occurs? This would confirm that it is indeed the monitor. Or trying a
different monitor on your system? This would confirm that it is the video
card (could be either the card itself, or the driver set in use). Before you
buy anything, you want to make sure of what is really wrong.
