Strange language in my System Configuration Utility

J

Jack Elvin

When I run "msconfig", then go into the System Configuration Utility, select
the "Startup" tab, there is a file in oriental language there. Checked or
unchecked it causes a dialog to come up at boot-up that says: Cannot find
the file (oriental xxxxxxxxxxx??? etc.). Search your computer for this file
and delete it if it is not needed. Also, delete the registry entry.

Problem: The Oriental writing in the Startup tab entry shows part of the
registry path (HKCU etc.) but not all of it. It will not let me highlight
and copy it so I cannot search for it. The Dialog that appears at startup
shows the oriental filename but also will not let me highlight and copy it
so likewise, I cannot search for it.

How can I get rid of the oriental file please?

Hi Jack,

Look for it under this key in the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupreg

Thanks Much To all who sent posts to help me. We have go it working right
for the moment. I honestly did not find the oriental file. I decided to
import an earlier backup that I had made of my registry and now the oriental
file is gone.
