strange folders

When I look at c:\Program Files\Support.com\backup I see a huge number of
folders with strange names like M, Y, $8, $I, ((, [m, etc. Could someone
tell me what these are and if I need them?

The directory isn't part of the operating system.

Interestingly enough, I just switched from Norton Internet Security to Zone
Alarm and the first thing it detected was Support.com trying to access the
internet.
