I have been asked to help clean up a website that is currently running
on FrontPage2000. The server extensions seem to be intact. I was
able to open the site "live" then publish to a folder on the hard
drive.

The file organization is really a mess, which I will deal with, but
there are 15 files that have a .php suffix. I don't even know what
these files are. Do they have something to do with security that had
been set up on this site? Would it be safe to just delete all of
them? Thanks.

We can't tell you what they are. If they were from the live web, you should
ask your host.

..php is a scripting language used on UNIX servers.
I would imagine that the files have some functionality in the web site.
I would "not" arbitrarily delete them.
