Strange file appears

A file with the name "~" (just a tilde, no extension)
occasionally shows up on my desktop. It is about 1.5 meg in
size.

(It is a binary file and when I browse it using notepad, it
looks like it contanis some address book information.

I just scannned my disk and found 4 other files of the name
name in various folders and various create dates. the
latest is 4 days ago.

I have erased these in the past and sooner or later one
shows up on the desktop. I didn't know about the others
until now.

Can someone tell me what this is?

its an OE 6 error saving a backup of your address book in the wrong spot
....no fix I know of ,yet
