Strange error message about PDC

I

Ian

The checkpoint with the PDC was unsuccessful. The
checkpointing process will be retried again in four hours.
A full synchronization of the security database to
downlevel domain controllers may take place if this
machine is promoted to be the PDC before the next
successful checkpoint. The error returned was: The naming
context is in the process of being removed or is not
replicated from the specified server.

Does anyone know what this means???
event ID 1586 comes up with nothing.

You have replication issues I guess, please install Windows Support Tools
found on your Windows Server CD. Use the command line based tool repadmin,
with the follow syntax:

repadmin /showreps /v

Have you demoted/deleted any DCs, Added/Removed domains? in a nearly time
frame to this.

If you don't have Windows NT DCs you can ignore this message.

If you do, you need to watch this message.

What this message means is that a DC is not able to checkpoint with the PDC for
its changelog so if another DC becomes PDC it is in close sync with the PDC and
it will be "safe" to make it the PDC. Usually you will see this on DCs that are
remote networks or don't have direct replication connections with the PDC. If
you have Windows NT DCs it is good practice to make sure all DCs that *could*
become the PDC have direct connections to the PDC for replication.
