We have a PDC only and I see this error Continuously.
"The checkpoint with the PDC was unsuccessful. The
checkpointing process will be retried again in four hours.
A full synchronization of the security database to
downlevel domain controllers may take place if this
machine is promoted to be the PDC before the next
successful checkpoint. The error returned was: The naming
context is in the process of being removed or is not
replicated from the specified server."

There is no BDC. How can I resolve?

There use to be a NT4 machine as PDC upgraded it to W2k
server, then I created a clean install WIN2k on a diff
machine then promoted it and added AD and in turn demoted
the old NT4(now W2k) machine. Took the NT4 machine offline
and rebuilt it new to W2K DC, ran into some replication
event errors so demoted it to member server. Should I
promote the second (old NT4)W2k machine back to DC?

Take a look at this link:

http://www.eventid.net/display.asp?eventid=1586&source=

Which will lead you to the following:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;
[LN];269417

However, I think that this will not help you as you state
that there is no "BDC".

Was this an NT4 Domain that you upgraded to WIN2000? Did
there used to be another DC ( either WINNT 4 BDC or
WIN2000 DC )?

Also, and this is just a language thing - there are no
more "PDCs" and "BDCs" in WIN2000. There are simply
Domain Controllers. There are, however, the five FSMO
roles ( one of which is the PDC Emulator - which emulates
the WINNT 4 PDC for the sake of any WINNT 4 BDCs that
might be on the network still ).

It looks like maybe things did not "demote" so nicely ( on
the original DC - the one that was the NT4 PDC that you
upgraded to WIN2000 to create the first DC in the AD
Domain and then later demoted ). It is good that you
dcpromo'd it originally but things do not always work
completely. I would bet that there are some instances of
it still lingering around. There is a MS KB article on
how to remove this. Take a look at the following Article:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;216498&Product=win2000

Also, take a look in ADSS to see if there is still an
object for the original demoted DC...

Before I forget - did you transfer the five FSMO Roles to
the 2nd WIN2000 DC? I suspect that you did.

Cary

I did find an object of the old dc in the ADSS. I will
wait to see if the Event viewer reports the same error
again. Thanks for now..
