Strange behavior in IE and OE after spyware attack!

S

Steve Miller

Aloha!

I got a while back spyware on my computer. It has been Amazons Alexa. Not
the toolbar, but the search function implemented in IE. It came with an
Fraunhofer audio codecs that the player wanted me to download to listen to
certain tracks.

I, meanwhile got fairly rid of all the Alexa installations exept one thing.
In IE as well as in OE is a strange behavior left.

If you typed text into search fields as sample, and mark this text to copy
it or the same way round in emails, this text will change it's own color to
read.

Normal behavior here was the text get white and a read background was
added. Can someone please explain to me where this is implemented in IE and
how to set this back to normal condition's?

This btw.is in IE and OE only. Windows and I downloaded Mozillas Firefox,
are not affected.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you all!

Hallo!

When I open IE (I got Google that comes up when it starts), And would type
some text into the search field
in the middle of the screen and press Goggle search this all functions well.

Then but when I mark the text on the next site that still is in the search
field it will change it's own color to red
instead of to white and getting a read background the same moment. I
uploaded an image that shows this odd
behavior. The word 'Google' has been marked by me and is read now instead of
white and a read background.

The second image shows the same action but in Mozilla Firefox. Here it all
seems to be OK.

A third image shows the same odd attitude. The marked text 'Google Alert
for: vacuum research' on top of the
preview pane should also be like the one in Mozilla Firefox, white and a
read background.

The function to copy or paste text is not hindered trough this.

PS: The text in my system is some kind of green as I altered the settings,
also the message with the images was to big to be published in
here.So I
uploaded the images to www.mdcc.de/ie.and.oe .

Thanks;
Steve

Some basic language difficulties have confused me, Steve. (Understandably
so, considering you are most likely not a native speaker of English, but of
German.)

The color 'red' (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=red) and the
past-tense of verb 'to read' ('read',
http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=read) are pronounced the same way
but spelled differently. I have [edited] your quoted text below to reflect
this difference.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's been a while since I was running Win98 but it would appear that
something is amiss in Control Panel > Display > Appearance > Advanced >
Selected Items. It might just be a change caused by the hijacker you
removed and so far unaddressed by you or you may still have some hijackware
present. See the links in my first reply below for help in running a
thorough check for hijackers.
What I'm seeing in image.3.gif appears to be correct, at least here, by
default.
To me the difficulties you encountered are not clear.
The red (color; German 'rot') is not to be mistaken to the word read,
http://www.wordreference.com/definition/read.htm?v=b, (reading action;
German 'lesen- las - gelesen') in my
message. I can't follow here sorry!
At this link http://www.mdcc-fun.de/rhythm.university/ie.and.oe/ are three
images. The third is not as good as
the other two (I first saved it as .jpg and than as .gif, interestingly the
third first?) but the behavior of the
browser in image.1 (Microsoft Internet Explorer) is not the normal one.
Please do not look at the stored search terms.
Specially not the in row 3. I have seen first when I had have uploaded.
Thank you.
The word 'Google' in image.1 at the search box is red. Oh, now yes I did
wrong I'm sorry. It but should be being from white
letters and have a read background as the one in image.2 (Mozilla Firefox).
It had this same behavior before I had the Alexa
virus coming with the audio codecs on the computer.
The same behavior is visible in image.3.The text in the preview pane,
'Google Alert for: vacuum research' was marked and is
now red, instead to be white and to have a red background. Here I have no
compare.
IE had the same attitude before, and you know what as I got the virus I
aftera while formatted the hard disk, have gone to
a totally other site with totally other content and got the same virus back
on the computer after just a few minutes hooked up to the
network.
