Storing a printer

I am going to put out of service a 895Cse printer for a few months.
Installed are the two cartridges, color and black that have a lot of life in
them. They sit in the parked position. Is it OK to leave them there for a
few months or is there another way to store them in or out of the printer?

Thanks

They will probably be OK for a couple of months. You may have to run a
cleaning cycle or two from the toolbox. Keep the printer in a cool place. It
is better to store them in the printer this way than trying to take them out of
the printer and storing them.

I left my 895cxi on my desk switched off for three months while I went
abroad. It was fine on my return.

I refill carts and sometimes get an airlock where no amount of
cleaning/priming cycles will fix. The solution for that is to put the cart
in a plastic bag (or better still TWO bags) with the nozzels down. Then
swing it round your hear so that centrifugal force pushes the ink towards
the heads. That always seems to get it working.

Thanks, (Bob and CWatters), good information. I have tried to shake a
cartridge with a kleenex and sometimes it works, but in a bag would even be
better.

You could remove the cartridges and
fasten scotch tape across the ink holes
underneath.

Doing this would likely ruin the color cartridge due to color mixing under the
tape caused by capillary action. Additionally, the black cartridge may be
fouled by residue left from the tape. It really is best to leave the cartridges
in the printer. If you must remove them for storage you could put them in a
Tupperware sandwich container and seal them up with a small piece of damp paper
towel in the container. Make sure that the nozzles do not touch the sides or
anything else. The cartridges could then be stored in a refrigerator, just
take them out and let them get to room temperature before putting them in the
printer. (This may take a few hours).

I plan to leave them in the printer for now. However, Bob, I have a
partially used black cartridge and stored in a Tupperware container (shows
our age, maybe) and removed it to check it out....it was fine, and back on
the container and in the fridge.

Leading to my next question on my HP7660 printer. When I print borderless,
I would guess there is over spray outside the edges. If so, does it
accumulate on the printer rolllers or paper drive? This is a neat feature.
