Stop x7E

I just began getting a Stop x7E when I reboot to Windows XP. As a result I
can only boot in safe mode. The full error is:

STOP 0x0000007E (0xC0000005, 0x80545EFC, 0xBACC2F68, 0xBACC2C64)

There was no specific device driver listed. Here's what I've done.

First, I did a system restore. Same result.

Second, I did a system restore from a previous point. Same result. There
apparently were only two system restore points.

Third, I looked at device drivers. There was an exclamation point beside HID
KB911895 so (a) I tried updating the driver and it didn't find an updated
one, so (b) I uninstalled it. I haven't rebooted yet, but I don't think this
is the problem.

Fourth, I am doing a complete system scan for viruses. Nothing found yet but
a tracking cookie, so I'll let it finish, but I don't think this will be the
problem.

Fifth, I tried to look at the minidump to see if there was any useful
information. It turns out, though, that the Windows Support Tools are not
installed by default, and apparently you can't install them in safe mode.
Strange it doesn't install them automatically ahead of time, and then when
you need them you can't do it.

Sixth, the most recent thing I installed was a firewire driver and a utility
program for my WD external hard drives. So I decided to uninstall them.
Gotcha again! You can't go to add/remove programs and uninstall in Safe Mode
apparently. So, these might be the problem, but if so, there seems to be
little I can do about it.

The computer has been running fine since I reinstalled Windows only about a
week and a half ago. So I don't think it would be a BIOS update needed.

I am out of options. If anyone has any suggestions, they would be greatly
appreciated!

The computer is Intel, and I've been running windows for a week or so since I
reinstalled it. But thanks for the suggestion.
