Stop the FLOODING

So you are too lazy to killfile him eh ?

He morphs. Also, he posts things other than floods, which people might
want to see. Perhaps you can talk him into tagging his subject lines
with [flood] or somesuch when he's in that mode.
As for going to freeware sites some people with limited internet
access read newsgroups offline. They might read 30 posts, decide
which ones sound worthwhile, then go to those 2-3 when online
again.

Much easier/faster for such people. :-)

Hmm. Maybe I should go grab all the program descriptions from
pricelesswarehome.org and post them one at a time. Wouldn't that help
a lot of people? ;)

BTW, Susan, if you are reading this thread, how many descriptions are
on file there now?

IMO that's not a bad idea - perhaps one or two PL2005 programs a day. . .

That's a slightly tricky question.

About 3500+ programs are listed on pricelesswarehome.org with a bit of
basic information about the program - About 500 of those programs have
one or *more* descriptions that include more detailed info. One program
may have several descriptions on various web pages: PL03, PL04, PL05,
PL04 nomination pages, the app's individual acf description page. . .

All PL05 nominations and selections and PL04 programs have *recent*
descriptions. ATM I think 350 - 400 *programs* have a detailed
description that is up-to-date.

He morphs.

Hardly a major problem. People changing the last part of their address
is not overly uncommon. Killfiling on something like ;

Any-Sender: ProteanThread

would have created a filter that would have worked fairly well even
with the end of his address changing.
Also, he posts things other than floods, which people might
want to see.

Fine, then the choices are simple. See all his posts. See none of his
posts. Sort them out one by one. Don't those choices also apply to
your posts and mine also ? :-)

I wouldn't call a few dozen "on topic" posts a "flood". If he did want
to label his posts then perhaps "multi" might be a better label ?

I don't know whether he would do that. You would need to ask him.
IF you had asked him politely then he may well have taken your
suggestion on board.

I doubt however that he will bother now. Doc decided to be unpleasant
about things so I hardly think PT would be well disposed to be
cooperative, given the circumstances.

Going to a single site wasn't a problem. PT posted about numerous
sites. Knowing what was on them before needing to go there helped
offline readers.

He's used a lot more handles than just the two that simple filter
would catch.

I thought SOP when you see a kind of on-topic post you don't like is
to flame the posters and demand tags, such as [AVU]. ;)

???

He posted the descriptions from a *single* site, pcworld.com, and gave
links only to that site.

Killfiling takes....a couple of seconds ? Hardly much effort
required. All this recent "flood" were from the same handle weren't
they ?

I don't flame "on-topic" posts so I don't know what you are talking
about. :-)

I should have said "numerous programs". I was more interested in them,
than the site mentioned, so didn't notice that they were all in one
place.

Okay, but did he list every program on that site that is freeware ?
I doubt it. I at least found benefit in the multiple descriptions/
selection. YMMV. :-)

Less than a couple of seconds. But killfiling a morpher after he's
flooded won't catch his next flood.

You say going to a single site "wasn't a problem". Going to a single
site would have shown you all those program descriptions he posted.
Yet you claim the flood solved some kind of problem. Tchuss.

It sure does.

I have always been under the impression that usenet newsgroups were for
like-minded individuals to 'discuss topics' of mutual interest. Copying
page after page of text from a website and flooding it here without even
an opinion (or even any recognition of actually understanding what was
posted... (proved by later posts)) is really cras. IMHO ... YMMV, lol

So is snipping someone elses opinion as"drivel" while adding your own to
the "flood" this thread has become.
1. The programs he listed were free.
2. The topic of this group is "freeware".
3. crass has two sesses...;0).
