Stop Page Loading

It often happens that pressing the 'Esc' key on the keyboard or navigating to View--->Stop in the menu bar doesn't stop a web page from downloading; the page still goes on downloading in IE6.0? Why so? Could it be the programmatic handiwork of the website creator?

Thanks,

Esc seems to stop whatever is showing in the Status bar.
When you press Esc doesn't the Status bar change?
Keep pressing Esc until the Status bar shows Done.

FWIW I have always thought that this is a useful feature.
It means that instead of aborting everything when one element
is slow or unavailable that the rest of the page can be rendered.
(E.g. it's especially useful for breaking out of long waits for
web-page counter services.)

Thanks, Robert, for your reply. As far as the Status Bar is concerned, it doesn't change to "Done" when the Esc key is pressed or Stop is clicked in View. It still shows whatever it is downloading, something like "Opening page http://www.abcd.com......blah....blah...blah....". Also when I find that pressing Esc or View--->Stop doesn't stop the page from downloading, I keep on pressing Esc or View--->Stop but again it doesn't make any difference; the page gets downloaded completely & then the Status Bar says "Done". Any other suggestions??

Thanks once again,

Regards,
