stop outlook from checking personal folders

Whenever outlook doesn't "close properly", when i reopen it spends up to an
hour checking personal folders. How do i turn off this feature

Close it properly?

What's causing that message - are you shutting Outlook down improperly? Do
you have an add-in installed that is misbehaving? What version of Outlook
are you using?

Sometimes outlook freezes and i have to end program. When i reopen, that's
when it happens. I don't know of any add-in that is misbehaving. Outlook
2003. thank you for your reply.

You want it to check the folders when that happens to prevent/repair
corruption.

You may want to figure out why Outlook is freezing if it happens that often.
Do you have enough RAM? Enough free disk space? How big is your PST file?
What add-ins do you have installed? Did you try running Detect & Repair?
