Startup of Outlook 2003

I have been using Outlook for about five years with no issues. Suddenly
today when I click on to Outlook 2003 it says that my personal folders were
not closed properly and then it goes through the time consuming process of
checking personal folders and archive folders. I know I closed Outlook
properly. How do I fix this problem?

Outlook may have appeared to close correctly, but without verifying that
using the Task Manager (look in processes for Outlook.exe) you can't be sure.
It's quite common for Outlook not to close correctly, often due to third
party integration (Add Ins) such as antivirus, antispam, FAX software, or
even synch software (for use with a handheld).
