Outlook 2002 Personal Folders

On a regular basis, I open Outlook 2002 and get the error message, "the data
file Personal folders was not closed properly. Checking for Problems." I
takes about 8 minutes, and is pretty aggravating.
Daily, before I exit Outlook, I select Personal Folders, and then click on
File\Close all items. It does not help.

How do I "Close Personal Folders properly" to stop this?

Are you running anything which may hold the folders open, such as
synchronizing software? What size is your PST?
