Stop Outlook adding spaces to phone numbers

I have seen this problem reported before, but no definitive solution. Here
is the issue:

I am based in the UK with my regional and phone/modem settings set correctly
I add a phone number without spaces e.g. +442012345678
When I click outside the phone field, Outlook adds a space: +44 2012345678

The problem with this is when sync'ing my 500 contacts to my Nokia mobile
phone, the phone does not allow spaces for VoIP calls. Outlook therefore
creates an invalid phone number (dialed +44%2012345678).

How can I make Outlook 'mind its own business' and stop forcing a space into
the number?

Even worst, when my PDA HTC phone rings it doesn't recognizes the caller
because of the space registered in my outlook contacts. Is there no solution
to this problem?

Outlook cannot and should not offer different phone formats for different
uses. A database must be and remain consistent. It is up to utilities that
want to use that database to do so correctly.
This is a problem with your PDA, not Outlook.

Please can someone pass this on to the Outlook development team as a strong
suggestion. This is becoming *much* more relevant than ever with the
introduction of VoIP-capable Smartphones. Outlook's insistence on meddling
with adding spaces to phone numbers makes VoIP calls impossible on Outlook
synchronised contacts.

Thanks in advance to anyone from MS who can pass this on. Sadly the MS Wish
Wizard seams to have died a death.
