Stop folders auto sorting files

Hi,

We have recently upgraded a team of programmers from NT4 to XP. When using
Windows NT we had the folders set in such a way that when we saved the
current file that we were working on, that file would move to the end of all
the files within that folder. This was actually really useful, and this
function was depended upon as a check when generating programs from the
files.

Unfortunately XP puts worked on files in the correct order, not at the end,
is there any way to turn this off? a registry hack perhaps?

Thanks in advance

When you say "sorting" then I assume you mean "sorting the
display while in Explorer or in My Computer". Simply set the
sort order to what you want, by clicking the appropriate
column header: The first click on the Date column sorts it
by date, the second by date in reverse order.

Hi,

I'm a colleague of the user who posted this thread.

Pegasus, we are trying to sort how files are displayed in windows explorer,
we have tried what you have outlined but XP doesn’t seem to refresh the list
of files automatically. You have to manually press F5 to refresh the list. Is
their a way to automatically refresh the list of files in a folder every time
a file is modified or saved to this folder?

Thanks for youe help.

If you don't mind using an alternative file manager you should try XYplorer
which certainly does what you want and is further configurable to show any
automated sorting behavior one can think of. And if you feel something is
missing the developer, as I know him, will be happy to add it.
