stop error upon installation

several attempts have been made to install win xp onto my
system. I currently am using Me without any difficulty, i
have tried to upgrade and do full installs without any
success. each time i get a stop error 0x000008E. what
does this mean. i have searched serval sites and can't
find nothing on this. any help on this matter will be
grateful

Put the xp cd in and the go to the compatibility checker.
Run this program and you will get a report on why xp would
fail to install. It sounds like a hardware conflict by the
info you have supplied.
