Stop error message: 0x0000007b (0xF9D91640, 0xc0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

Hello
I get a Stop error message: 0x0000007b (0xF9D91640, 0xc0000034, 0x00000000,
0x00000000) after a restart even in the Safe mode. The stop error began to
appear after a successful starting after expanding the hal.dll and
l_intl.nls from the Windows XP Pro SP1 CD.
The system starts using a Last known goon configuration successfully and
hardware installation begins, but the error appears again after a restart.
I had to expand the hal.dll and l_intl.nls because the system had begun to
write that it couldn't find the files or they were corrupted.

Have you tried a Repair Install using the WinXP CD (it is
bootable)? That might get you going again. I would have
suggested a System Restore, but if you can't get the OS to
run correctly, that probably won't help.

Expanding hal.dll is not usually successful - if you look in that .cab
you'll find something like 7 versions of hal.dll (called things like
halaacpi.dll, etc) and only XP knew which the right one for your
hardware was.

Try the repair install again, after having removed everything not
actually required (i.e. leave the graphics card, RAM, HDD, and CD ..
remove the rest). In particular, remove USB devices, and any soundcard.
You'll need a floppy drive too if you have any special drivers to load
(with F6) during the installation.

Given your problem just suddenly started, there may be a hardware
problem (memory, disk) at the bottom of it. Try running
www.memtest86.com (from floppy) before trying the repair install.

Thanks for your suggestions.
Isn't the thorough Power On Self Test (POST) (not quick POST) enough for
memory checking? How is the Memtest86 better?

A cause of the problem was remaining of 1,2 GB of free space on the system
drive.
I couldn't determine the amount of free space on the system drive and didn't
have access to "Documents and settings" folder to free my temp folder in the
recovery console. I had to make a fresh install of Windows XP on another HD
to determine the amount of free space and free the temp folder.

Excuse me. I couldn't determine the amount of space occupied by each folder
(not the free space) on the system drive in the recovery console.

How to delete the fresh installed Windows XP? Is it enough to just delete
"Windows", "Document and settings" and "Program files" folders?

Yes, but you'll probably want to delete the reference to it in boot.ini
(if the system offers you a choice at boot time), Start, run, msconfig,
boot.ini check all paths, (after you have deleted the system you no
longer want).
If it had a pagefile.sys defined you'll want to clean that up too.

Should I delete any files or folders from the program files folder? How to
determine which files or folders were added during the Windows XP
installation? The program files folder existed before the Windows XP
installation.

You said you installed a clean copy of XP on a separate HDD. In which
case any pagefile associated with that version (and any program files
you installed, and any documents and settings) will, by default, have
gone on the same HDD.

Anything on the original hard disk is probably part of the original
installation.

Note - 'NOT deleting' something won't cause a problem (except loss of
some disk space). Deleting something that was part of the original
installation will have bad consequences, so proceed with that in mind.

I didn't install any program files on the separate HDD under the new copy of
XP. I installed to "program files" folder on the separate HDD under the old
Windows XP installation.

Then leave them alone, they're part of the old installation.
