Stop error 0x000000C5; other problems

Ben

After a recent problem with my hard drive (in frustration I
quickly turned the power to my computer on and off 3-4
times, effectively losing all my data) I reformatted said
drive. There were problems during reinstall that I
couldn't trace, so I again reformatted (not using the quick
reformat) and reinstalled Windows (I had been using the
same version of XP home each time). This time, however, I
am still running into problems. The first of which are
stop errors. Every once in a while (usually while
downloading or saving large files), the following error
occurs: STOP: 0x000000C5 (0x0000E967, 0x00000002,
0x00000001, 0x80538105). Also, upon bootup I run into a
"Control Center Error", but I can't figure out what program
is causing it (I have a picture of the error message at
http://ourworld.cs.com/billy wires/One+of+many.bmp, as
well as the actual report at
http://ourworld.cs.com/billy wires/untitled.bmp). Are
these problems caused by software or hardware failures, and
how can I go about fixing them? Thanks for your help and
your time.

Basically that is a DRIVER_CORRUPTED_EXPOOL error, and the culprit is
usually a driver of some kind. See MVP Jim Eshelman's STOP errors
web page at http://www.aumha.org/win5/kbestop.htm and click on the
"C5: Driver Corrupted" link in the left side column.

The error report names em_exec.exe as the culprit. This is a
non-essential file used by a Logitech mouse. You can uninstall or
rename it and it should not affect your performance adversely. Or try
getting updated drivers from Logitech for your mouse.

Good luck
