STOP: c000021a when network cable is connected

I've run across an error that I've been unable to find a
resolution for.

I have a new PC that generates the following error after a
succesful login. XP displays the users desktop (in this
case the default) and will look like everything is ok until
it changes the color of the task bar to grey at which point
the system re-boots. I unchecked the automatic restart on
failure option and received a blue screen.

This is where it gets strange...
If I disconnect the lan cable the system boots fine. I can
plug the lan cable in after a succesful boot and everything
connects correctly (network drives, server authentication)
in a couple of seconds.

If I launch an application that uses the LAN (like Outlook)
as soon as the desktop displays about 70% of the time I do
not get the blue screen.

The PC is brand new and the intel 865 motherboard, the ATI
video card, the ram, and the case have all been replaced
with no change in the behavior. All appropriate patches
(BIOS and Windows Service Packs) have been applied.

Any ideas?

The BSOD message:
STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The Windows Logon Process system process terminated
unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000005 (0x00000000
0x00000000)

Rub chkdsk adn wait. It should take a while. Once you are
logded in, you might encounter more errors. Restart the
comp then and wait. It might be that your harddrive is
dying. It is often the case with this error that the ram is
gone and needs to be replaced.
