Stop C0000135 error on boot after Windows Update

I installed the recommended critical updates on a 2000
pro machine. Now, when the machine boots, I get a blue
screen with the message "STOP C0000135 (UNABLE TO LOCATE
DLL) THE DYNAMIC LINK LIBRARY WINSRV COULD NOT BE FOUND
IN THE SPECIFIED PATH DEFAULT. LOAD PATH." It pauses on
this screen for about ten seconds and then reboots, and
continues to cycle this way indefinitely. How do I
correct this?
