How do I fix this? I restarted my machine after doing a
windows update. I get an error message " STOP: C0000135
Unable to locate DLL. The dynamic link library Winsrv
could not be found in the specified path Default Load
Path. Please help.

I had exactly the same thing happening to me! Last friday,
after installing the latest Windows Update and restarting
my computer, I lost access to my entire machine, no
winsrv.dll could be found. After hours of working with the
windowsCD and the repair option (that did not work, thank
god I have another machine running win2K so I could scoop
out the dll's and so on and put them on cd and feed them
to the other machine) I could log on again, but... I was
absolutely floored to find out that my partition E had
been renamed to D, and that my CD drive had been renamed
E! A lot of programs don't work and can't be uninstalled.
I think I'll have to format the whole machine...

I am going to try that out this weekend. I still have to
work this week and I have never done this before. Don't
say it's because I'm a girl, but I am a bit nervous about
it. This machine is important to me since I work from
home!

Sorry I have a typo. It is KB824141. Go to recovery
console. cd to winnt directory. Find the directory
$NtUninstallKB824141$. cd to it. cd to spuninst.
type in

batch spuninst.bat

My system has winsrv.dll in the proper location and it's
the correct size when compared with a "working" system. I
loaded the october update and get the stop C0000135 cannot
locate winsrv.dll error.

Last time this happened, the win2k CD fixed it.

What's the root cause of this? KB82414 ?
