Hi - how do I prevent an email address from showing in the Global Address
List? We have set up a mailbox but don't want users to be able to find the
email address in the GAL as only a couple of users should have access to use
the email address.
pls help! thank you

You'll have to do this from the Exchange side. You don't mention which
version of Exchange so I'll give you a general idea.
Open up Exchange Administrator. Doubleclick the mailbox. Click on the
Advanced Tab. Check the box marked "hide from address book" and click the OK
button.

that's great - thank you so much

Note that when a mailbox is hidden, the entire email address will have to be
typed in. The alias will not resolve. Or that's how it works on my Exchange
box.

Can a hidden mailbox be added to a profile in outlook? i know it will not
resolve the name because it is not in the GAL, what would the procedure be to
add it? I mean does the mailbox have to be "unhidden" then add the mailbox to
the profile then hide it again? Thanks

That's currently how I have to do it, though I'm using an old version of
Exchange. The name won't resolve for the profile unless the mailbox is not
hidden. I'm not sure how it works for newer versions of Exchange though I'm
doing a migration this weekend to 2003. I should find out next week.
