Help. I think a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.
I have XP Pro SP2 loaded update and reboot brought up a black screen.
"Windows can not start because the Windows\System32\config\system
file is corrupt or missing. You can attempt to repair this file by starting
Windows Setup using the original Setup CD.
Also Stop 0X000000ED(0x82EFB368, 0xC000014F, 0x00000000, 0X00000000)
Unmountable Boot value I found Setup disk and loaded recovery console. Did
a directory and no files list - An error occurred during directory
enumeration. So I did a chkdsk /r and got the files to display but it
stopped at 30% and errors. When I tried to make a temp directory to copy
registration files It says Access Denied and I don't know if there is
anything else. Any ideas?

From your description it appears that either your file
system is corrupted or that the hard disk has suffered
some damage. I would download and run the diagnostic
program that the manufacturer of your hard disk has
on his website. If it reports a damaged disk, replace it.
If the disk is OK, reload Windows.

Were you perchance using a registry cleaner?
