are you using any firewire devices?

using that interface?

I have an external Firewire/USB2 hard disk from Acom Data,
model HD080U2FE-72, and an Espon scanner, both on the 1394
port. The hard drive appears to have been the
precipitating device, since the crashes started the day
after I installed it, on September 13th. I sent them the
following supplemental information.

Dear AcomData

I purchased the external hard drive on September 11th,
2003, and installed it on September 13th, using my 1394
Firewire port.

On September 14th I began getting system crashes, with
mini dumps (64KB) captured by Windows 2000.

Yesterday, November 30th, I started looking to see what
might be causing the crashes, fearing that I would have to
reinstall Win 2K, because it had become corrupted.

This morning, for the first time, I looked carefully at
the "Blue Screen of Death" message, and found that it
referenced the 1394 driver, sbp2port.sys. The STOP
message is reproduced below.

I have had an Epson Perfection 2450 scanner installed for
over 18 months on the same Firewire port, with no problems
evident. I installed the new Acom HD080 as the first
device, and the Epson scanner as the second device, daisy-
chained from the Acom.

The sbp2port.sys version and date are:
Version 5.0.2195.6710

Do you have any newer driver for the HD080?

My question, now, is whose responsibility is sbp2port.sys?

It seems to me that it is strictly the responsibility of
Microsoft. Am I correct?

I have 13 minidumps (64 kb) from crashes since September
14th, and the last 5 differ amongst themselves only by 5
or 6 characters. The previous ones differ from the most
current ones by 1951, or 1952 (6 times) or 1958 characters.

To me that says that the same problem is recurring,
frequently.

Should I turn on larger dumps, while waiting for the next
crash?

To whom should I point this out at Microsoft and/or Acom
Data?
