Thanks for all of the suggestions. I do have both users set up to use the
same Message Store folder.

Steve, would WMID do what I want to do? If so, I'll buy it.

Thanks,

Steve M,

Ah, now the cat comes out of the bag. ;-)
I don't recall seeing that detail before. No wonder your passwords
were getting lost.

Okay. That's what I thought. You just need to create batch files that
overwrite the .oeaccount files whenever you switch users and that will
prevent the prompting.

Hi Gary,

Thanks for sticking with me through all of this. I appreciate your trying
to help.

Steve M.

I have a more basic problem along this same thread. One user. One password.
It still prompts me for my user name and password every time I open WMail or
try to send my first message. I too have checked "remember". The current
password opens it every time.

I finally found out how to solve this. Go to Control Panel/user accounts
and uncheck user account control. At least it (finally) worked for me.

Hi - the same problem started on my pc today and i'm pleased you found the
solution just in time for me to correct it before it became a pain! thanks -
solution worked.

Make sure UAC is turned back on.

Yeah, that was my next suggestion, to check the permissions on the message
store directory. It looks as if the permissions are off, and if that is the
case, it won't remember the password.

steve

The problem is, when you turn it back on, it loses your password/signin
again. Turning it back off though returns the password/signin without
having to retype it.

hi Frank

sorry for my ignorance but I don't know what impact turning UAC on/off has.
If I turn it on will I not get back the mail problem? If I leave it off, am I
open to viruses or other such nastys?

thanks in advance.

If you leave it off you are much less secure, but it well not necessarily
protect you from viruses. I run with it on and have no trouble having it
remember account name and password.

Some security programs will prevent WinMail from storing username and
password. What security programs are you using.

I have Norton running - it was working fine until 2 days ago when I suddenly
started gettting prompted for account and p/w so i don't think it's a problem
with my security s/w.

I do.

ok - having read the article Steve pointed me at I now know what you mean and
I completely agree with you. I have disabled the email scanning and turned
UAC back on. Just opened windows mail and successfully retrieved my mail
without being prompted for passwords! Problem appears to be solved from my
viewpoint so thanks to you and Steve for your valuable help.

Users seem to have a hard time accepting the fact that their
antivirus, when configured for email scanning, can corrupt the
stored username/password information.
