Stby Mode Disappeared in Windows XP

I have a laptop on which I ran Windows 2000 for many years and was able to
select Stby, Restart or Shut Down from the "Start" menu. Now that I have
installed Windows XP the Restart and Shut Down options are still there but
the Stby option is greyed out. I know the machine has ACPI because it worked
with W2K but I lost part of it in going to WXP. The same problem is there
with both sp2 and sp3. How can I enable or fix it?

Following one of the MS KB articles, I looked at a startup file (Whose name
I can't now recall) and found this entry, which seems to imply it is starting
correctly:

[ACPIOptions]
ACPIEnable = 2
ACPIBiosDate = 01,01,1999

The MS KB article said this would load the ACPI.

Via a Google search I discovered that I needed to update my video driver. I
tried that and it worked! I surmise that Windows checks during bootup to make
sure all installed components are ACPI enabled and disables the stby option
if any of the applicable drivers not able to accomdate stby mode.
