Static update shield on Turn Off button

Several weeks ago I got the update shield on my Turn Off button (to turn off
the computer). The message below the button said: Click Turn Off to install
important updates and turn off your computer. Click here ----. I clicked
the Turn Off button and went away from the computer for the night. This
shield and message won't go away and the update log doesn't show any updates
loaded. How do I get rid of this shield? Am I missing some update(s)?

And have you pressed the "Install updates and shut down" button? If so,
does the computer shut down and then you see the same thing when you next go
to turn off the computer?

What happens if you go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com, select CUSTOM
& scan, and then install the updates?

Yes, I press the Install updates and shut down every night (approx. 15 times
since it first appeared) The computer shuts down but the shield/message does
not go away.
If I install updates manually, will the shield go away? I have not tried
manually installing whatever updates I don't have.

If you try to update manually via Windows Update, you should be able to
determine which update(s) is failing to install (e.g., KB967715) because it
will be the only one offered.
