State backup

Hi, when doing a state backup of a domain controller, what is included in
the backup? I have read a few articles that mention that you must also
select the sysvol dir when doing a stateful backup.

thx jason

The following is backed during system state backup:

• Active Directory (NTDS)
• The boot files
• The COM+ class registration database
• The registry
• The system volume (SYSVOL)

Hope that helps...

System State backs up the following:

Registry
COM+ Class Reg DB
Boot files
AD DB (ntds.dit)
SYSVOL
WFP System Files

In addition, if the DC is a Certificate Server it also consists of the
Sertificate Service DB, and the Cluster Service info. if it's a Cluster.

You don't need to specify SYSVOL; it's part of the System State.

Not too sure what you mean. DC role matters not. You should backup all
DCs. One isn't really good enough. Also, in most cases the System State
isn't enough to actually recover the dead DC. It's good, but you'll find DR
easier if you backup the System State and all of C drive (minus pagefile).

If you install apps anywhere else, i.e. D or E drive, then you should do a
full backup of these too.

Does it matter which server i.e. domain controller or gc server?
