I am wondering what is it that should be in your start up
menu when you first get your computer.I know now that when
I go to msconfig and look at the start up menu right now
there are 23 items checked off, what is the minimum that
should be there, perhaps some one could let me know by email

There's no easy answer.
Be aware that if in a particular programs options you have it set to start
when the computer starts, that by removing the "tick" from msconfig will
just make it generate a new entry in there on next boot.
Always try to turn it off in the program first.
Another example is for MSN Messenger & Office shortcut bar.
