when i startup a windows installer box comes up. it says its preparing to
install. then a box for norton comes up saying it doesnt support the repair
feature. i have norton systemworks, but this sounds like the antivirus side
of it. anyone know what is causing this and what i can do to disable it?

No, that sounds like Norton Doctor, or Norton Quackery. These "Witch
Doctor" features are sure to kill the patient or make him ill if he
isn't. Disable all that Norton stuff except for the AV. Go in the
Norton programs and look for the options to turn off these features when
the pc boots. Or try this if you have a hard time turning them off:

first of all i can hardly see myself killing all norton except AV. but which
norton doctor are you referring to? disk or system. neither are set to auto
start. and what is Quackery??? never heard of this.

Do as you please. The problem you're experiencing is probably caused by
Csinject.exe, a CleanSweep component that keeps monitoring your system
and launches the CleenSweep "Installation Monitor" when it detects that
setup files are being launched. This is a known troublesome
application. Installing software entails a lot of activity by Windows
copying new files & creating new registry entries, CleanSweep
Installation Monitor interferes negatively with software installations.

The rest of these Norton Utilities are no better. As I said, do as you
please, eventually you will realize what kind of hit your system is
getting from having these utilities running in the background. Some of
these utilities are good for trouble shooting but you can start them
when you need them then close them when you're done. CleanSweep is an
Ok tool but you don't need it running in the background, nor do you need
any of these other "Doctors" & "Monitors". Speed Disk is actually a
pretty good defragmenter. Some of the other utilities in that suite are
next to useless.

i checked for csinject and found nothing running. i should have said earlier
that i already have everything but AV off. nothing else starts
automatically. i also have the same problem when i print a word document.
The same error comes up, but after i close it the document prints anyway.

Ok, so lets recapitulate.

1- When you run an msi installer package you get a norton advisory
telling you that norton cannot repair what ever is not yet broken.

2- You have everything norton off except nav.

3- Then the only possible problem can only be nav.

That is either a syllogism or a false syllogism.

Or the synopsis is wrong and norton is in a state of solipsism or norton
is soliloquizing.

To sort this out get http://members.lycos.co.uk/codestuff/ . Reboot
your pc and immediately after you reboot launch CodeStuff Starter.
Click on the "Processes" tab then do Ctrl+S. Save the text file, then
copy and past the contents of the file here. I'll try to make sense of
it. It's weekend so be patient, it may be Sunday or later before I post
back. But I'll look for your reply Saturday morning. I guarantee no
results, just a promise to try.

Sorry i took so long to get back. here is the file from codestuff. this
error comes at system startup. First a windows installer box comes up and
says its preparing to
install. I dont know what its going to install. Then a box for norton
comes up saying it doesnt support the repair feature. All I can do is cancel
the unknown installation
