Startup quirks - driving me crazy!!! Please help...

Hi, and thanks for reading! I have three seemingly isolated problems with my Dell Inspiron 2600 --

1) first, when windows starts up, it automatically goes into DSKCHK, but says "an unspecified error occurred" after a few seconds then startup continues as if nothing happened.

2) another message: "the file or directory C:\$Mft is corrupt and unreadable...." - to which I press OK

3) another message: "Windows cannot find C:\Windows\system32\vxd32v.exe.." etc etc

These show up everytime I start up, and as a last resort (I think I've tried almost everything!!) I decided to reinstall Windows, but it wouldn't even let me do that, saying my C:\ drive was corrupt....what to do???? Thanks for your time!
