Startup programs

Every time I start Windows XP, I have several programs
that load automatically. Some I don't want to load, but I
can't figure out where the startup folder is to remove
them. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi Don,
Type MSCONFIG at Start>Run and flip to the startup tab. Uncheck the items
that you do want to load at startup.

Continuing where you left off: how can you force one service (program) to
start after another one?
A typical example would be: I want my firewall/anti-virus software to start
up before MSN Messenger.

Click on start; click on run; type in "msconfig" without
the quotes; click "ok"; click on the "Startup" tab and a
list of prgrams which load on startup will appear.
Uncheck the ones you do not want to load, click "apply"
and then "ok". Your system will then ask you if you want
to re-boot to give effect to the changes.
Be careful. Hope this helps.

Hi,

There is a difference between a service and a program. Through windows you
cannot specify the startup order of the programs during bootup. Usually
anti-virus softwares associate themselves as a system service and hence it
starts before any other 'program' starts.
