This should be easy but I can't find the answer.
When I first started my PC i was asked for user names. I entered mine
and my wife's. Now, when XP starts up it 'hangs' at a screen with both
names and we must pick the one we want for XP to activate. Bad idea when
the power goes out and it reboots. How do I get XP to boot completely to,
say, my screen?

See "How to Configure Windows XP to Automatically Log On a User
Account" (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=282866).

You're configured for multiple users. Windows has no way of determining who
pushed the power on button. You must have one user only to do what you want to
do.
