Hi

this maybe more of a motherboard help question, but i cant see any
newsgroups for that. But maybe someone will know.

My friends computer is having a very hard time starting, it takes about 20
trys, sometimes more, before it eventaully starts up.
I reinstalled windows, and its still the same.

Motherboard is a Leadtek Winfast K7NCR18G-Pro
with 1.25Ghz Processor Athlon
512MB Ram DDR333 PC2700
400W Power Supply
Has a Modem Card, SoundCard and Geforce 5200 card in but i took these out
and still it does it

What happens when it goes wrong it the Hard drive light and power light stay
on, it goes no further no monitor comes on it doesnt get that far, the reset
button doesnt work the only way to cut the power is pull out the power lead.

I reset/cleared the cmos, but that made no difference.

When it starts up and freezes i hear the HD click like it powers down maybe
before it goes no further.

Its a new motherboard and new PSU, he did say he tried putting the old
motherboard back and it still did the same.

any idea?

Once it starts eventually it work fine!!

Your friend has some type of hardware issue that should be diagnosed by a
technician.

Try removing all hardware, except obvious required, like memory, processor,
but Modem, Sound card, and Graphics card (if you have on board graphics on
the motherboard, activated via BIOS) and try a re-install then. If your
still hearing the clicking sound it will possible be the HDD failing, can
you try another HDD in the machine? Can you try a new IDE cable, there may
be a break in the current one? I had a HDD that started clicking, and it
eventually failed.

Just a suggestion, hope it may help.

Regards.
Paul.

hi

i dont know what it is, i tried my memory and cpu from my computer that i
know works and that made no difference, i tried another HD that i know works
and that made no diffrerence, and numerous IDE cables, nodifference.

when it does start sometimes it goes through the beginning bit saying
memory, hard drives etc then goes off.

i dont have a 400w power supply to test it with, but i tried a 250/260w PSU
and that made no difference.

i may try dismantling it all tomorrow and try rebuilding it see if that
works.
