Startup - msconfig

I'd like to get some ideas or feedback regarding turning off items in
my startup file to reduce clutter and speed things up. There is a long
list of .exe things so i'll wait for any feed back on this before
writing down the list of startup items.

thanx,

jim

First, try to use the program itself to disable starting up at boot in the
program's options/preferences.

Visit sysinfo.org and type in the name of the startup item. It will tell
you what the item is so you will know whether it is ok to uncheck it based
on what you need.

Hello , For a Hewlitt / Packard Lbtop , XP Home , SP2 ,,,, I like to check
the boxes for : The one and only Anti-Virus , Spyware programs , Web
Browser/Start Page , ccApp , cpqset . {The first 3 are not actual names of
the item } . The Anti-Virus and Spyware programs may have more than one item
that may be required during startup perhaps for updating . Enter {same
spelling} item into address bar -or- your search engine , you may be brought
to that item for definition -or- to most likely website ... oh well .
Definently ---> seek definition for "all" items in the "startup menu" . This
time consuming reserch will help ya' get to know your PC even more so . There
are places to try :

Run your background programs and look for a setting to stop it from auto
running when windows loads up. This is better than using msconfig.

I recently used Castle Cops to determine programs that could be removed from
statrup.
Go to this link and search for each program in your startup list:
http://castlecops.com/
In the left pane under Security Central click StartupList
Enter the program name in the search box
If you get clear advice that the program is not required at startup uncheck
it in the msconfig startup list.

Not required at startup may be misleading if for example, a person wants
to have his anti-virus or firewall auto launching when windows loads.
