Lately when I click Start on the desktop, a popup appears saying everything
can't be shown Never had this before and it keeps after I remove a lot of
items. how can I stop this popup?

This occurred to my brother on his laptop. He had a lot of programs on his
laptop, and his start menu became rather cluttered. We solved the problem
by reorganising the start menu.

That doesn't work for you?
Does the option...

Control Panel [Classic] -> Taskbar and Start Menu -> Start Menu ->
Customize -> Advanced -> Start menu items: Scroll bar
