Good Morning All,

My issue is: everytime I start my computer, after windows 2000 pro starts
up, I get a folder that opens on my desktop. The folder is c:\documents and
settings\<username>. The folder is empty.
It is very annoying, is there a way to stop this from appearing?

Also, is there a default setting so that when I look in any folder the view
is details?

Thank you all so much for your assistance/suggestions.

Check to see what is in the "Startup" part of your start menu. You may
find there is a link to this folder in there. If there is, right click
on the folder link and delete it.

I'm sure other, more in depth, advice will follow if that isn't the case :)

As far as the details on folder thing:
Open up a folder and set it as showing details (VIEW,
DETAILS), then go to TOOLS, FOLDER OPTIONS, VIEW tab, then
click the LIKE CURRENT FOLDER button. This should set all
of your folders to the current view of the folder you were
in (where you set it up to show details).

Hope this helps.

Is the folder opening the one for your profile? I.a., is <username> your
logon name? If it is, then your profile may be damaged. You could try
logging in under your administrator account, deleting your user account and
recreating it.

If it's not your profile, try deleting the user whose folder is opening.

Right click "My Computer" then manage-local users and groups-users.

BTW, if the account in question is "administrator", do not delete it under
any circumstances.
