I am new to Win xp and can't find a way to add programs
to the startup group (so they will start when I boot
up). How is this done in Win xp?

Same way as other OS's. Goto Start>>Startup>>and put a shortcut to the
program you wish to lanuch

I don't have Startup on my Start button so the way I do it is to go into
Explorer, find the .exe for the program in question, create a short-cut
(right click), find the Startup folder (Documents & Settings/Your
Name/Programs/Startup) and then drag the short-cut into that folder.

Right click the Start Button - take either
Open (if it is only to start when *you* logon) or
Open All Users (if for anyone)

Double click in that to open Programs, in that open Startup and put a
shortcut to the program in there. You can also put in shortcuts to
things like Dial Up connections, so that the connection starts
automatically) (do that one in the simple Open for 'yourself' though)
