How about looking for C:\Documents and Settings\**your user name
here**\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
Drop a shortcut to the desired program in that folder - it will start up
when you log on.
If you want it to start for all users, substitute "all users" for your name.

Me.. lol said:
I'm taking a course on Webpage design. And, we have to
learn about how to manage windows. And, this book is
slightly out of date, and they're telling me how to make
programs start automatically when I turn my computer on
using the StartUp folder. But, I doubt Windows XP has
that folder. And if it does, I can't find it. I've been
looking for a few hours. Any suggestions or tips would
be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Here is the path to, I believe, the Microsoft officially recognized Startup
Programs folder or list, as intended by the designers. No jiggery-pokery
here.
[Start]>[Help and Support]>
[use Tools to view your computer information] under [Pick a task]>
(Lt.) [My Computer Information]>(Rt.) [View Adv. System Information]>
[View detailed system information (Msinfo32.exe)*]>
(Lt., click +) [System Environment] under [System Summary]>
[Startup Programs] on the expanded list
I don't have to tell you why this procedure for accessing the list is not
popular!
*This point can be reached alternatively like this:
[Start]>[Run]>type in msinfo32 >[OK]
But that runs against the Microsoft official advice -- stated in a Knowledge
Base article -- which says that, if possible, always use the Graphical User
Interface, rather than command lines.
