Startup error message

When I boot my computer, working with XP, I get an error
message that states "A disk read error occurred Press
Ctrl+Alt+Del to continue". I can't get past this error. I
have tried booting with the Symantec Startup disk, but get
nowhere. Any advice???

I'm on a response team for Hurricane Frances and need this
computer to track emails and the hurricane progress until
I get called in. HELP!!

Did you change the motherboard and/or your BIOS settings using the same
hard drive?
