Starting/ Shutting Down Windows screens

Windows 98 had the logo.sys screens, but I've been beating
myself over the head for months to figure out of XP has
the same possibilities. Can I change the log on or
loading screen for XP (if I can, how?) or am I stuck with
the same old black loading screen and blue log on screen?
