Starting over,Problem w/e-mail attchmnts

recent problem w/e-mail ,was able to download attachments from mail (AOL )
and as soon as file done, could open file! NOW, when download complete,
hourglass stays on and I can't close downloading file window or mailbox
window hourglass just remains on so long that I sometimes just restart pc and
everything is OK again. Hope that's enuff info Help, what's the fix!
