Each time I start up I get to the "Windows is starting up"
blue screen and it stays there for infinity. I pressed F5
during start-up and tried to boot-up in Safe Mode, but
again I got to a blue screen with an hourglass for
infinity. I recently downloaded and installed AOL 9.0. I
have heard that has an effect or it could have nothing to
do with the problem. What should I do?

Try pressing the Escape key for more info. In the meantime:

Hi

You need to press F8 to get to the screen for Safe Mode. When you get to
that screen try 'Last Known Good Configuration'. If that doesn't help try a
System Restore from Safe Mode.

Oh - thanks. Someone asked about Ctrl - as in Win ME - but haven't tried it
yet.

If you paid that person for their advice then ask for your money back!
It could be this but then it might not be?

I'll let a more seasoned XP'er offer software advice but in the meantime,
try popping the lid and ensuring that all your cards and RAM sticks are
seated securely.
